Luis Carlos Ramírez-Martínez is a lawyer specializing in International Economic Law and Trade Policy, with more than 17 years of experience in the public sector, international law firms, and strategic consulting in Colombia, the United States, and within the WTO framework. He has advised companies industry associations, and governments on free trade agreements, trade remedies, free zones, trade barriers, export promotion, and investment attraction.
In Washington D.C., he worked as an associate at Curtis, Mallet- Prevost and with Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, and in Colombia he served as Director of Trade Remedies at Araujo Ibarra & Asociados, as well as attorney at Research & Opportunities Ltda. In the public sector, he acted as an FTAs legal advisor and negotiator at the Ministry of Trade and the Presidency of the Republic, advising more than 15 FTAs, and later as advisor to the Superintendent of Financial Institutions of Colombia, where he led the international relations office. Recognized by Who’s Who Legal as an outstanding lawyer international trade and customs, he has been a member of the Colombian Academy of International Law, professor at leading universities including Javeriana, CESA, Externado, Sergio Arboleda, and Los Andes, and a frequent lecturer and author in international forums.
He earned his Law degree with honors from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, holds a master’s in law from Universidad Sergio Arboleda, and an LL.M in International Law from The Fletcher School – Tufts additional training at Harvard’s Law and Kennedy schools.
